Welcome to the 'Year of Engineering', and a year of great CPD events across the country.  STEM is becoming a growing movement with great potential to help the industry, while a number of large infrastructure groups are struggling to survive. So we have a diverse year ahead of us with plenty of opportunity for growth and development.

As the industry looks towards BritEx we are starting to see gaps in the market for talented leaders.  CMI have been publishing a number of articles on this issue to try and inspire the industry to address the matter.

Engineers have been shown to be great leaders within the industry, but we can all improve and hone our skills in this area.  Many may think addressing internal project conflict and staffing problems are small concerns in comparison to large engineering designs, but without clear cut direction and project leadership any engineering design will fail.  Take a look at CMI, CIOB and IET over the coming months for interesting and inspiring management CPD.  We are also looking forward to the publishing of the IET's online Academy which will be a great parallel to the CIOB's, one for engineering and one for management what more could you want.
